Bridging the Highways Industry’s Age Gap

There is a lot of talk and general acceptance in the highways sector about ‘the skills gap’ and ‘an age gap’.

Crown Highways Limited is committed to investing in the future by bridging these well-known voids within the industry, and are proud to announce the first batch of their new apprentices.

All three are to be trained to become highways electricians and will be enrolling at Preston College to undertake an estimated 18 Month apprenticeship, which entails 80% site experience and 20% classroom training.

All three have been inducted into the company and undergone DNA screening and ECS testing and Crown Highways are happy to say all have passed with flying colours, so a big ‘well done’ to Dillon Devers, Gary Blackburn and Daniel Halpin.

This is a step from Crown Highways towards joining the 5% club and beyond to invest in the future workers and Crown Highways Limited continue improvement program.

What is the 5% club?

The 5% Club is a movement of employers providing ‘earn and learn’ opportunities to develop the skills and talents people need to become more employable and create meaningful careers.

The 5% Club is a dynamic movement of employers focused on creating momentum behind the recruitment of apprentices, sponsored students and graduates into the workforce. Their members consist of large and small employers from a wide range of sectors who want to make a difference, fill the skills gap and support the UK’s ability to compete in increasingly tough global markets.

By joining the 5% Club, members strive to achieve 5% of their workforce in ‘earn and learn’ positions (including apprentices, sponsored students and graduates on formalised training schemes) within five years of joining.
