Crown Highways introduces COVID-19 Testing Programme

With the end of lockdown in sight, Crown Highways wants to make a final push in the hope of reducing the spread of the virus which has controlled our lives for a year.

The Government have been rolling out testing programmes to businesses and schools in recent weeks to provide early warning of COVID cases and reduce the spread of the virus, something that Crown Highways was keen to get on board with.

Working closely with the Department of Health and Social Care to become an approved testing centre, Crown Highways has been granted permission to use Lateral Flow Testing for their people meaning that testing kits will be made available to all employees with the testing regime scheduled to begin on 7th March 2021.

The regular testing of employees will help to control the risk of the virus to all employees, family members and fellow members of the supply chain who they work alongside, in the hope of getting us over the final hurdle and returning to normal life as soon as possible.

Around one in three people who are infected with Covid-19 have no symptoms so could be spreading the disease without knowing it. Widening testing to identify those showing no symptoms will mean finding positive cases more quickly, meaning we can break chains of transmission.

Lateral flow tests provided by NHS Test and Trace

Crown Highways have received a batch of 2500 lateral flow tests provided by NHS Test and Trace. Using rapid-turnaround lateral flow tests will help the government and Crown Highways to protect those at high risk, find the virus and stop transition.

Pete Benton, Health, Safety and Environment Manager commented saying: “We are really proud to have been granted access to Lateral Flow Tests meaning that we can do our upmost best to keep our employees and their families safe alongside our other Covid-19 regulations that are already in place. Even though testing is voluntary, we hope that the majority, if not all employees get involved. That way we can ensure that any cases in individuals who are asymptomatic can be picked up and dealt straight away, causing the least disruption possible.”
