The New CR Series 500 Filter Drain Recycling Machine

Crown Highways have taken their recycling to a whole new level as they take delivery of the new CR Series 500 filter drain recycling machine.

The CR Series 500 filter drain recycling machine has been developed following a 6-month development process and it reinforces our continuing drive to implement innovative methods of working throughout the company.

The CR Series 500 allows us to offer a competitive solution to the market of filter drain recycling with outputs of upto 90t per hour being recycled in recent trials.  The process is a cost-effective and environmentally friendly method of recycling filter drains.  The benefits of adopting this process include:

  • Reduction in Traffic Management Costs & Lane Occupancy Charges
  • Reduction in the use of imported materials from off-site sources.
  • Reduction in waste materials being taken to landfill.
  • Reduced HGV movements in and out of Traffic Management.

The machine has a number of controls that allows the operator to change the speed of the process based on  the volume of silt  contained within the filter drain itself.  This ensures the drainage media placed directly  back into service meets the grading  specification as stated in Table 5/5 of the SHW (MCHW 1) with all waste  products being removed off-site. The process transforms  the non-compliant drainage system to its original    condition and ensures the drain is again capable of draining water from the  carriageway surface, removing  sub-surface water from the unbound pavement layers and preventing ground water from entering the  pavement foundation.  All of this together prevents the pavement form failing prematurely.

Mike Dale, General Manager at Crown explains:

“It means a lot to us as a company to reduce our waste materials and carbon footprint print, as well as  continually looking towards  the safety of site employees. With less need to send HGV’s in and out of lane  closures, coupled with the significant reduction in  landfill waste that the new machine gives us- we’re really  pushing to improve the services we offer to our clients.”
