The National Infrastructure Centre at NAL Head Office in Worcester is being upgraded with the installation of several new sector areas including; Motorway Communications, Rail and EV Charging alongside their traditional Street Lighting, Highways and Traffic Signals sections.
Responsible for all of these civils works are Crown Highways, who lend their significant experience and expertise to the job.
The centre is both vital and prestigious for NAL, as it’s regularly used for NAL’s demonstration days – where attendees are able to hear from NAL technical specialists and witness live product demonstrations, so it’s safe to say it’s absolutely crucial to the company that the NIC is in the best condition, and performing in the most efficient manner possible.

Crown Highways transform NAL HQ
The National Infrastructure Centre can host up to 60 people and has a fully operational street scene with the latest innovations from the leading manufacturers to the infrastructure industry installed within it.
The revamp of NAL HQ started in November 2018 and took four weeks to complete. The Crown Highways team supported the project installing the chambers, retention sockets and ducting routes around the site to allow the full range of products to be displayed for demonstration purposes.
Mike Dale, Crown Highways MD spoke about being requested to be involved on the project:
“We install NAL products in vast numbers across the UK so it was great to be asked to carry out this project, NAL are a great company to work with and have a an extensive range of specialist products”
Mike also added:
“It’s a really cool, impressive facility here and the replica of a true street setup is certainly a rather unique opportunity and surrounding for us to be working in.
“We’ve really enjoyed working with NAL on this and we look forward to hopefully being able to collaborate on other projects in the future.”
Michael McGee, Operations Director of NAL said:
“In November 2018 we extended our external exhibition centre and employed Crown Highways to carry out the work, which included products for the Motorway Communications, Electric Car Charging and Network Rail sectors.
“The items installed were retention sockets, various types of chambers c/w with a varying arrange of covers, controller cabinet bases and loop boxes as well as kerb realignment and surfacing.“We found Crown Highways a pleasure to work with, from management down to the operatives on site, always polite and work was to an accurate and very high standard.”
