News / Crown Highways Celebrates Victory at the CECA Midlands Awards for McClean Way Project

Crown Highways is celebrating another proud achievement after being named winners of the CECA Midlands Project of the Year (up to £3 million) for their outstanding work on the McClean Way – Pelsall to Brownhills Cycling, Walking and Wheeling Track.

The prestigious award recognises the project’s transformative impact on the local community, delivered in partnership with Sustrans and a host of valued collaborators.

The McClean Way scheme has significantly enhanced accessibility for residents, creating a safe and sustainable route that encourages active travel, supports healthier lifestyles, and promotes greener, more inclusive communities.

The project went beyond construction, with Crown Highways focusing on environmental improvement and social value at every stage. The team planted hundreds of trees and wildflowers, improved drainage systems, and created habitats to support biodiversity along the route. These enhancements not only elevate the user experience but also contribute to the long-term environmental health of the area.

A particular highlight of the scheme was the creation of a memorial garden at Ryders Hayes School, developed in partnership with the school’s pupils and staff. The garden serves as an inclusive space for reflection and connection, reinforcing Crown’s ongoing commitment to engaging with and supporting the communities surrounding its projects.

Managing Director Mike Dale praised the team for their dedication and excellence throughout the project:

“We’re absolutely thrilled to have been recognised by CECA Midlands for our work on McClean Way. This project is a brilliant example of what can be achieved through collaboration, innovation, and a shared commitment to social and environmental value. It’s about more than just a track – it’s about creating spaces that connect people and communities in a sustainable way.”

Crown Highways also extended thanks to the project team, contractors, and partners for their contribution to the success of Phase 1, acknowledging the collaborative effort that made the scheme possible.

This latest accolade adds to Crown Highways’ growing list of achievements and reinforces the company’s reputation for delivering projects that combine quality infrastructure with lasting community benefit.

With more work planned for the future, Crown Highways remains committed to building greener, safer, and more inclusive spaces.
