The ‘Walk the Walk’ event – a 16-mile walk along the local canal network connecting both Crown Highways & R&C’s offices took place on 14th June 2024. Each company started at the head office of the other company and made the journey back to their own base.
The efforts of the two businesses has raised over £2,000 so far for Acorns – an organisation dedicated to providing crucial support and care to children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions.
About Acorns
Acorns Children’s Hospice is renowned for its comprehensive approach to care, understanding that when time is short, every moment becomes invaluable.
The organisation not only offers specialist palliative care but also helps families create lasting memories.
Their facilities provide a cheerful and homely environment where children can engage in a variety of enriching activities, forge new friendships, or simply enjoy moments of peace and quiet.
With a change in government, Acorns is now in a position of uncertainty around funding. As a result, it is critical for the charity to continue receiving support like that delivered by Crown Highways & R&C in order to keep delivering its vitally important services to families in need.
To help the cause and donate to Acorns, you can donate to the:
Save the Children’s Hospice Grant – Acorns
They provide massages, meditation and other help, but perhaps most crucially – a safe space.
Crown and R&C have previously raised money for the charity which went towards the therapy room amongst other offerings Acorns can provide to families.
The walk…
Dubbed the ‘Collaborative Canal Convoy,’ both teams successfully completed the 16-mile trek.
At the halfway point, Longwood Boat Club, there was an opportunity to refuel with food and refreshments and the midway point stop also incorporated a visit from Richard Burke of Acorns Children’s Hospice, adding a meaningful touch to the event and giving walkers an inspiring reminder of the reason they were part of the challenge.
Crown Highways: Collaboration with R&C
The collaborative nature of this walk reflects the strong partnership between Crown Highways Limited and R&C Williams.
Both companies are committed to making a positive impact on the communities they serve, and this event exemplifies their shared values of teamwork, compassion, and social responsibility.
Crown & R&C coming together, however, is nothing new. The two companies have a long-standing relationship, collaborating on numerous projects and schemes.
Crown Highways MD Mike Dale said:
“To complete this challenge for such an important charity means a lot to Crown and is the continuation of a long list of charitable and community efforts. To do it alongside a collaborative partner that we appreciate and value so highly in R&C was special, and we’re grateful to them for creating this challenge with us and making it a truly collaborative effort.
“We’ll absolutely be back as a team and see who else we can collaborate with in the midlands to do further volunteer days with Acorns.”
R&C Business Director Sam Drew added:
“Organising this walk and raising money for a cause as vital as Acorns is something we at R&C are proud to say we were involved in.
“The charity does absolutely brilliant work and the event furthers the work we do with local charities. It was fantastic to do this alongside Crown, extending our collaborative efforts beyond schemes and work sites.
“We look forward to further fundraising opportunities with Crown Highways.”
