Team Takes on the 3 Peaks Challenge to Support Christie NHS Foundation

News / Team Takes on the 3 Peaks Challenge to Support Christie NHS Foundation

In a remarkable display of determination and solidarity, 14 members of the Crown Highways team are preparing to tackle the National Three Peaks Challenge.

This exciting endeavor not only promises to test their physical and mental strength but also aims to raise funds for the Christie NHS Foundation, a charity that played a significant role in the recovery of Crown’s Operations Director, Mike Leadbetter.

Back in 2022, Mike was faced with the daunting diagnosis of stage 2 throat cancer. Throughout his battle, the Christie NHS Foundation provided unparalleled support, helping him regain his health and guiding him back to a fulfilling life. To express their gratitude and support Crown Highways has taken up the challenge, ready to conquer the three highest peaks of Scotland, England, and Wales.

The National Three Peaks Challenge demands participants to climb Snowdon in Wales, Scafell Pike in England, and Ben Nevis in Scotland within a span of 24 hours.

The team will cover a staggering walking distance of 23 miles (37km) and face a total ascent of 3064 meters (10,052ft), all while traveling a total driving distance of 462 miles.

The Three Peaks

Ben Nevis is the tallest mountain in Scotland at 1,345 metres and is first up for the team to climb. Scafell Pike, located in England and reaching a height of 978 meters, will push the team’s endurance to its limit in climb number two. Finally, the team will face Snowdon, standing tall in Wales at 1085 metres.

Crown Highways has set an ambitious fundraising target of £5,000 for the Christie NHS Foundation. Their commitment to this cause is already evident, as they have made exceptional progress and are a third of the way to achieving their goal. Through their dedicated training and unwavering determination, the team is not only pushing their own limits but also inspiring others to contribute to this vital cause.

This challenge showcases the core values and spirit of Crown Highways, a company that has demonstrated its commitment to volunteer activities and giving back to the community time and time again. By embarking on the National Three Peaks Challenge, Crown Highways exemplifies their willingness to put in the hard work and ascend great heights, both metaphorically and literally, all in the name of charity.

Crown Highways MD Mike Dale told us:

“The three peaks provides us with the platform to firstly, contribute to a charity very close to the company’s heart. The treatment Mike (Leadbetter) received from Christie was fantastic, and given Mike means so much to us, we wanted to take the opportunity to give back to the foundation that looked after him so fantastically.

“Secondly, it’s a great opportunity for our team to pull together and achieve something away from the workplace arena. I’m sure we’ll need to rely on each other at various times during the challenge and hopefully, going through some adversity together will only pull our team tighter together.”

Mike Leadbetter added:

“It goes without saying really what the Christie NHS Foundation means to me and my family, so to see my colleagues at Crown set out to give the foundation a boost means a great deal to me, and I’m thankful for the effort they’re putting in. I’m wishing them well!”
